Today
is Sunday.

Hello
everyone! I want to say thank you for all the comments you have
posted to the blog! We love reading them as much as you all love
reading the blog. So keep em comin!

This
morning we got up early and studied the Watchtower.

Then we went to
the meeting at 9:00. (yes, we all commented) There were 138 in
attendance. I don’t think we’ve told you about the congregation here
in Tena. I don’t know how many publishers they have, but I know it’s
a lot less than 138. They do have 3 elders now (a servant just got
appointed), they have 8 servants, and 27 pioneers! So, as you can
see, they’re a very strong congregation. They have a lot of
territory to cover. Tomorrow we are taking an 8:00 am bus to a town
called Santa Claire. We will work in service there all day. There
is a bookstudy there also, but we’re not going to go to that one,
because on Tuesday we are taking another bus to another town (I can’t
remember the name of that one) for all day service. Tuesday service
is kind of a big thing around here. Apparently we all go to this
certain town for service. Then everyone meets back at this witnesses
house, everyone chips in money, and all the sisters make lunch. Then
everyone takes a nap and goes back out in service. After service
everyone attends the bookstudy there. (this is Jenny’s bookstudy)
I’m not sure if we will participate in the nap, but we’re going to do
everything else.

After
the meeting today we got invited to lunch at Lief and Autumn’s house.
He is from New Hampshire and she is from California. (He’s 25,
she’s 30, and they’ve been married about 10 months.) He’s a servant
here and gave his first public talk. I took a picture. He did a
really good job. They have a pretty neat story: He was raised in
the truth until he was 8 and then his dad got disfellowshipped and
his parents got divorced. He chose to live with his dad when he was
9 so he wouldn’t have to go to the meetings anymore. He ran rampant
in the world and got involved with everything from girls to drugs.
His conscience started bothering him when he was about 20 and he
started studying. He moved to California and got baptized when he
was 21 and moved to Ecuador when he was 22 or 23. He got appointed
as a servant here in Ecuador (but not in the Tena congregation). He
met Autumn and they talked on the phone about once a month. He was
already living in Ecuador and they started to talk more frequently.
She had been wanting to move to a foreign country to serve so she
moved here and they dated for 5 months and got married here in
Ecuador. I told her that was a pretty huge leap for her to make
since they were just dating. But she said since she had been wanting
to move where the need was great anyway, so she’d have been happy
however it worked out. Lief’s circuit overseer, however, told him
that if she moved out here and they didn’t get married, he would be
removed as a servant. So, it’s a good thing everything worked out
for them!

They
live in a really nice little house in the middle of a kind of farm.
It’s a little bit outside of Tena. They couldn’t find anything they
really wanted in town so they just started knocking on doors until
they found the house they’re renting now. There are tons of animals
on the property. Tucans, parrots, wild pigs, monkeys, turkeys, a
weird rodent type animal, a deer, and who knows what else. We got
lots of photos and video. I tried to upload them today, but it
didn’t work. We’ll keep trying.

They
made spaghetti and salad. The salad was excellent! (and they
disinfected everything for us!) It had lettuce, onions, cucumbers,
carrots, avocado, red peppers, and cheese. They even made a salad
dressing of vinegar, lemon, and orange juice. What a treat! Much
better than mayonnaise!!

After
lunch Mark went to play soccer. I just took a cold shower and got in
my pj’s. (Yes, I know. It was only 4:00 in the afternoon. But, I’m
telling you people, it’s HOT here!) Nathan went in to town to meet
up with Mark and they were supposed to go to Jenny’s house and have
dinner somewhere in town. I opted to stay home and rest. I got to
chat online with Kim for a little bit, but then I had to disconnect
so Nathan could use the phone and when I got back on, the thing just
kept telling me that my messages were not being sent. (So Kim if
you’re reading this, I’m really sorry I never got back to chatting
with you! I promise I tried.) I gave up on that after about 30
minutes and decided to watch a movie on my laptop. I finally got to
see The Devil Wears Prada! (I was really looking forward to seeing
it on the plane over here, but we didn’t get to choose the movie that
was played, and out of all the movies they had they chose the only
one I’d already seen!) Anyway. Thanks to Melissa I had a copy of it
with me and was finally able to watch it. I liked it a lot!! But, I
must not be that fashionable, because WHAT WAS UP WITH HER BANGS?!?
I mean, seriously. Does that look good?

It’s
about 9:00 pm and I’m just sitting at our kitchen table writing you
all and listening to the bats climb around our ceiling. I’m sure you
people think I’m making this stuff up, but I promise you I’m not. We
actually have bats! Thankfully I haven’t seen them yet, I can just
hear them. I’d like to go to sleep now, but the boys didn’t take the
house keys with them, so I have to wait up until they get home. I
think I’ll just lay in bed and read. Good night. Love you.

hello to you all. Andy has been keeping me up to date on all the other log ins but today was the first i felt up to seeing all the fun for myself. I am really happy for you all and very envious. by the way Jennifer and Nathan, as usual, happy anniversary late.:-).And even though i don’t know you Mark i hope you get to place all those 12lbs of mags. Ya’ll take care and we’ll pray for you. baptise someone for me please. we have the CO next week and i am hoping that all will be well for us to get to be apart of all the fun. I write again as soon as i make it back to my computer. tons of love

Hey Jennifer, No worries about losing our chat. I figured something was up, thanks for trying. try throwing stuff at the bats! Sounds funny but it works. we did it here and havent seen our bat in weeks! and its pretty entertaining. im sure the boys would enjoy it. another adventure! hope you find the coast to be a little more comfy weather wise. enjoy your service days. thanks for keeping us filled in. love ya.

Crazy crazy as always. Sounds great. I haven’t dealt with bats, but those pesky little squirrels threw a party in my attic every night, right above my head. I hope they don’t disturb your sleep too much. Like Kim says, throw stuff at them. I’m really glad you finally got to see the movie. Mom said the same thing about the bangs, it was funny. We miss you so much. Have fun preaching!
