Preaching and Fun in Ecuador

Catching up by Melissa

Hey peoples! Melissa here. I really had good intentions about writing on here more, but you know how it goes. Here’s a quick summary of what’s happened so far: Arrive in the country, visit the branch (awesome, really)(made some good friends), get sick, travel to Riobamba (made more good friends with the assembly hall caretakers, helped them work on hall), travel to Banos (pretty, tourist activities), feel a little better, travel back to Guayaquil (branch location) for convention, get even more sick, take medicine, spend time with friends there, get a little better, enjoy convention, travel to Cuenca, go shopping for sweaters, get reallllly sick, travel for a long time while sick back to where we chose to live, stay really sick for a couple days, go to doctor, get medicine (Jen and I so had to get I.V.s put in) (We shared a meal…gave us an intestinal infection, ewww), starting to feel a little better.

Well, there you go. I know that what you just read was an incredibly long run-on sentence, but I figured that you guys would understand. Ok, so Jen said that she told you a little about my living arrangements. I’m supposed to fill you in on the rest. I’ve included pics below so you can get an idea. I couldn’t take interior pics, cause there are people staying in the place right now. In fact, that’s part of it. I can stay in this house when the other people leave, but only until the owner comes back. While he’s here, he’s going to doing some construction work…finishing apartments and such. Once he has at least one of the levels done, he can move into it and I can move back into the house. (I have to leave when he comes back, cause he has to have somewhere to stay. He is the owner of the house after all.) You guys, when all the confusion is over with, I should have this house to live in for as long as I want! Rent free!!! Ooooooooooohhhh ya, I almost forgot the second best thing. When he’s here, he’s going to fix up the house…paint, etc. I (supposedly) even get to pick out the colors! Talk about a great landlord. This guy is so nice. Wait, that’s not the second best thing. The really great thing is that it is literally next door to the Kingdom Hall. It’s on a gated piece of property with another place where two German pioneer sisters live. (That’s who we are staying with right now.) They speak English, too. Ok, the pics are of the Kingdom Hall over the fence, the view when you first enter the gate (the house on the right is where the sisters live), and then the outside of the house I’m hopefully going to live in. It needs a little love, but that’s what it’s going to get. The inside is better. It’s actually kindof cute in person. Paint will definitely help, though. Ok, Ok. I’ve gone on long enough. I’ll try to keep you all informed as things progress. Oh ya, duh. The place we chose to live in….Pillaro. I’m sure Jennifer has already told you, but I wanted to say it too. hehe. Alright, talk to you guys later! Much love from Ecuador!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had no idea you guys got sick. I’m so glad you are feeling better now. It’s so exciting that you will be able to live rent free. That should help your money hold out even longer than expected.
WE LOVE YOU and are so proud of all you are doing for Jehovah. Keep us up to date and we will try to do the same for you. LOVE YOU LOTS!!!

Your prospects sound wonderful! The house is very cute & just what you need. As I read the details of your trip so far, words like ‘brave’ ‘exciting’ ‘adventure’ & ’sacrifice’ keep coming to mind. I love that you’re having this experience & look forward to hearing & seeing more!
