Out of touch

Hello everyone! I’m sorry we’ve been out of touch for a while. For all of you who have been worried about us getting sick…worry no longer. Melissa and I have been deathly ill for the past 5 days! We have shared everything we’ve eaten and apparently the dish we ate in Cuenca last Friday (Churrasco) gave us an intestinal infection. We have had fever, diarrhea, and vomiting ever since. Yesterday we finally went to the doctor and both had to get IV’s of medicine and fluids because we were dehydrated (no “I told you so’s” from Sarah Vines!) :-) Today is Tuesday and we are feeling better. Not 100% still, but we are out of the bed which is an accomplishment!

I was able to get out of bed long enough on Sunday to look at a couple of apartments. We chose one. It is two-bedroom, two-bath. It has built-in armoires in the bedrooms and cabinets in the kitchen. That’s special because most of the places here have no closets and no kitchen cabinets. A bible study is living in the apartment right now, but is moving to Ambato within a month. So, we are going to move in to an apartment that a brother is renting but not living in until our apartment is empty. We negotiated $100 a month with a one year lease. Titto and Letti (the elder and his wife) went with Nathan to negotiate the terms and they say it’s a good deal because of the closets and everything. (I had to give up on the apartment I wanted, because even though the owner said it will be finished in a couple of months, we were told that she is running out of money so who knows how long it will take her to finish it. Also, there is no phone line and we desperately want to have internet in our house. The apartment we are getting doesn’t have a phone line, but the woman told Nathan that her brother-in-law works for the phone ocmpany and can install one for us no problem.)

Melissa will be able to live in the “rent free” house beside the German sisters until the owner comes back from New Jersey. But, I’ll let her give you all the details of that.

I think that just about does it for now. Love you all VERY much!!!!
