Preaching and Fun in Ecuador

Studies with Letty

Last Wednesday (the 15th) I went on two bible studies with Letty (our elders wife). One was in the country. How to preach in the country: First you walk across town and get on the bus. Then, you get off the bus and walk up the mountain. Next, you turn up the students drive-way and walk the rest of the way up the mountain! :-) Well, the study, Joanna, wasn’t in her house so we went to find her. Letty said she was probably milking cows. So, we literally walked through a field with knee-length (no exaggeration) grass until we found her and her parents milking cows. (oh, also, we had to do the limbo under a barbed-wire.) Joanna was happy to see us and she said she was almost done, so we waited. Her and her two year old daughter, Gabriella, came back to the house with us and we studied. We invited her to the assembly and she said she wanted to come. Well, lo and behold, when we showed up at the Kingdom Hall Friday morning for the bus to the assembly, Joanna and Gabriella were there!!! That’s so cool!

We had a little over 1,300 on Friday and a little over 1,800 on Sunday. (We didn’t get to go Sunday because I had altitude sickness and was throwing up - they say it takes about 3 months to get adjusted. Pray that the next two months go by really quickly.) :-)
There were also 40 baptized. One from our congregation. Ivan. He is 15 and his mom is studying, but not yet a publisher, and his sister who is 13 just became a publisher. Cool, huh? (Their dad is deceased.)

The only other news I can think of is that we went to Ambato today (Aug. 20th) with Tito (our elder) to buy heaters for the Kingdom Hall!!! This is very exciting as it is usually cold at the meetings. Tito asked Nathan to go with him to get the stuff for the Hall so Melissa and I went to MegaMaxi and bought more groceries and things for the apartment. I still wasn’t feeling that great so it wasn’t fun, but I felt like I should get out of the house. Melissa had fun though, because she is very soon going to be moving in to her little house. They are replacing a window in the bathroom and should be finished tomorrow. So, she was marking all kinds of things off her list of stuff she needs.

P.S. - Last week marked our 4 year Anniversary of being in Spanish. Crazy, huh?!

Well, I think that’s about it for now. Love you all SOOOOOOOOOOO much,
Jennifer
