Preaching and Fun in Ecuador

Kid party and Study updates

This past Saturday we had the kids from the congregation over for dinner and a movie. There were 9 kids, me, Nathan, and Melissa. I made burritos, pico de gallo, and guacamole. I wanted it to be extra special for the kids, because they’ve never had burritos! They’ve never had pico de gallo either and I almost killed them! I didn’t know that people here don’t eat spicy stuff. It wasn’t even spicy in the least bit to me, but it did have onions, so I guess that was enough to do them in. The little girls started coughing and gulping down their soda and saying, “Aye! Esta pica mucha!!!” (Aye! This is really hot!) Sad to say, I was totally cracking up! :-) Plus, I more than made up for it when after dinner I produced a tray of suckers, candy, and cookies. The kids went crazy! The smallest child, Jael who is 3, was shoving cookies in her pockets. It was so hilarious! After dinner we watched “The Incredibles” and then I gave them all a little gift. Jael hugged me four times! :-) All in all, I’d say it was a big hit. :-)

Kid party - Sept. 2007

Now, I’d like to tell you something really exciting. We had the third study with Teresa today. (she is the one whose brother is in our congregation) Well, on our second study we studied the entire first chapter of the Bible Teach book and she was kind of shy and embarassed to answer the questions so when we left I told her she could study ahead and then when we came back she would already know the answers. Sadly, we did not find her at home last Tuesday. But, today she was there and we sat down and when she opened her book I saw that nothing was underlined so I was a little disappointed that she had not studied ahead, but decided to go ahead and ask her if she had read any of the book. To my great delight and surprise she showed me that she had read all the way to Chapter 4!!! She told me that she particularly liked the part about the promise for the Earth and showed me the pictures on page 35. Then, as if that wasn’t good enough, she told us that she never really wanted to read the Bible before because she was scared of it and always thought it had sad stuff in it, but now she is excited to read it!!! How cool is that??? So, we studied the entire Chapter 2 and strongly encouraged her to come to the meetings. I’ll let you know if she does. :-)
Love you all,
Jennifer
