Preaching and Fun in Ecuador

Awesome new study!

We miss you all terribly! It’s much worse than we thought it would
be. The only way we know to combat that is to stay busy. So last week
we went out and I started five new bible studies. I want to tell you
about one of them:

Her name is Josephina. She is in her late 40’s, a paraplegic,
and can’t read. Talk about a challenge! Anyway, we met her a week ago
Thursday and offered her a study and invited her to the meeting. She
started crying and said, “I would love to learn about God!” So, this
past Thursday we picked her up for the meeting. Two of her
grandchildren came with her (Junior who is about 10 I guess and
Marjorie who is 5). Nathan and Rodolfo lifted her in to the truck and
put her wheelchair in the back. Before the meeting we gave them a tour of the Kingdom Hall and showed them a painting that a brother painted of a paradise scene. During the meeting I showed Junior how to look up the scriptures and he looked up all of them! He also sang the songs with me. After the meeting I asked him what he thought and he said, “It’s paradise!”

Josephina came with us to the meeting again yesterday. We leave our house at 2:00, pick up Juan (a 19 year old brother in our Hall), and go get Josephina. Juan is really strong so he just carries her from the house to the truck! Then Nathan drops us off at the Hall. It is now 3:00 and Nathan heads to pick up Gloria (an older sister in our Hall) who lives 20 minutes from the Hall. On a good day he gets back by 3:40 and all is well. Unfortunately Gloria isn’t always ready on time and Nathan makes it back by ten minutes til the meeting starts. After the meeting we do the same thing and take everyone home. We get back to our house about 8:30 (the meeting ends at 6:00). Anyway, after the meeting last night I asked Diana (Marco’s 9 year old daughter) if she learned anything. She said, “Yes! So many things!” I told her to tell me one thing she learned. She said, “We shouldn’t fall in to the traps of Satan!” I then asked Josephina if she remembered any of the traps. She explained to me about how we can fall in to the fear of men. Then Diana said, “Also, we shouldn’t smoke cigarettes, because they’re bad and Jehovah doesn’t like it!” I’d say it was a pretty successful meeting! :-)

Also, one of the guys Nathan is studying with who got removed as a publisher about four years ago wants to be a publisher again! Tito said he needed to join the School first so him and Nathan met with Rodolfo (the school overseer) Saturday and he joined the school, so hopefully he’ll be a publisher again soon.

I think that’s pretty much it for now. Love you bunches,

Jennifer

I know it must be tough getting used to the new location. That is why we are so
proud of what you have had to overcome to do this all important work. Your example has inspired many of your friends here to do more in serving Jehovah. That to makes us even more proud of and impressed by what you are doing. Keep busy and enjoy yourselves as you go about your assignment. Remember we are work horses not race horses. WE LOVE ALL OF YOU.

I really enjoy reading your experiences. Your doing the best thing you could be doing–staying busy in the work and getting involved deeply with the congregation. You are really applying what the WT in this week’s service meeting says-widening in love and valuing the friends. Much love.
