Special Assembly Day 2008
This past Sunday we had the privilege of going to the Special Assembly Day in Riobamba. I know that most, if not all, of you have already had this privilege. I wanted to share a few of my favorite stories/experiences:
There were 6 year old triplets in Kindergarten. Their teacher threw them a birthday party with a cake. They explained that they do not celebrate birthdays and would not eat the cake. The teacher was upset because of all the work she had put in to their party. She decided that the children must have been afraid of getting in trouble from their mom. Since their mom also worked at the school, the teacher decided to go talk to her. The mother told the teacher that the decision was completely the girls to make and silently prayed to Jehovah that they make the right one! The teacher went back to the classroom and told the girls that their mom said they could eat the cake, there was no problem. The girls looked at the teacher and said, “what our mom does is between her and Jehovah, but as for us, we’re not eating the cake!”
After school one day, a mom asked her little boy how his day went. He explained, “Well, the teacher tried to make me do the sign of the cross, but I told her that Jesus didn’t die on a cross he died on a stake. So I just made the sign of a stake!”
A 9 year old girl wanted to get baptized, but her parents thought she was too young. She kept insisting and the parents finally talked to an elder about it. He told them, “If you wait until you’re ready, she might not want to anymore!” So the girl got baptized. Two years later when the girl was 11 she told her parents she wanted to auxiliary pioneer. Even though she was still in school her parents let her start pioneering. Two years later when she was 13 she wanted to start regular pioneering. Her parents told her that she needed to concentrate on choosing a profession and work on that instead. She insisted and they agreed to let her start regular pioneering. Two years later when she was 15 the girl told her mother she wasn’t feeling well after a meeting. Outside she collapsed in her fathers arms. They took her to the hospital and she had had an anuerism and passed away. The mother wrote a letter to the Branch and said, “When our daughter was born, her father held her in his arms and said, ‘What a beautiful baby girl!’ She died the same way. In her fathers arms. Our daughter must have known she only had a short time on this Earth and wanted to do the most for Jehovah she could!”
Those were just a few of the highlights from our assembly. I hope you laughed and cried like I did.
p.s.- I almost forgot to tell you all that I am famous! I made it on the board of pictures at our assembly. They showed some pictures from different Kingdom Hall builds and there was a picture of me helping a brother lay ceramic tile!!! Pretty cool, huh?
Love you all,
Jennifer
